Vancouver Meatless Meetup’s Earth Day potluck to screen Vegucated

The last time I blogged about the Vancouver Meatless Meetup, it was preparing to host a big potluck during the holiday season. Now the group is planning a potluck to celebrate Earth Day.

Actually, the event will take place on April 21, the day before Earth Day. The location will be the same as last time—the Oakridge Adventist Church (5350 Baillie Street). Although the potluck is a secular event, the site is fitting because the Seventh-day Adventist Church encourages a vegetarian diet.

This potluck will feature a screening of the film Vegucated. Directed by Marisa Miller Wolfson, the much-talked-about documentary follows three omnivores who agree to follow a vegan diet for six weeks.

Attendees must register through the Meetup group, which is run by Earthsave Canada supporters. Here are the details for the potluck, which starts at 6 p.m.:

We ask that you come with a dish to share that can allow 8 people to take a big serving spoon sized scoop. Please ensure your dish has no animal products so that everyone from omnivore to vegan can partake. Please do not bring any dishes with eggs or cheese or fish or gelatin. If that sounds challenging to you, Whole Foods or Choices have many ready made options to choose from. Please bring an ingredient list so people can see what is in your food. Also, don’t forget your own plate and utensils.

There will be prizes for the best appetizer, best entree, best dessert and best raw dish.

The Vancouver Meatless Meetup describes itself as “not a vegan group”, because its members include vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores. However, the food at the group’s events is always vegan.
